A U.S. Model 1836 pistol made by Johnson in 1841, .54 caliber with an 8-inch barrel. The lock is dated 1841 and still holds its case colors. The metal is in arsenal bright finish with only slight cleaning, and the wood is excellent with crisp, sharp cartouches. Overall the piece is in excellent condition for a pistol of this age.
For a New Jersey collector this is a display and study piece rather than anything for carry or home defense. What makes it stand out is how much original character survives: the case colors on an 1841-dated lock, bright arsenal metal that has not been heavily polished, and cartouches sharp enough to read easily. There is little here that could be improved on, and the pistol needs nothing done to it.
This pistol ships to a New Jersey FFL dealer, where you show your permit and complete the paperwork before taking it home.
