LC Smith Field Grade Shotgun 12 Gauge

An L.C. Smith Field Grade side-by-side 12 gauge from the late 1940s, serial FWS4465. The 30-inch blued barrels have 2 3/4-inch chambers and fixed chokes, modified and improved modified. It is a case-hardened sidelock with extractors, double triggers and an automatic safety, and the checkered walnut stock measures 14 inches to the original butt plate.

Condition is the story on this gun. Field Grade Smiths were working guns and most show it, but this one has only light handling marks on the wood, its original oil finish, crisp checkering, nearly all of its case color, and just a few small wear spots on the barrels. The bores are excellent, the barrels are tight on the face and the top lever rests right of center. A New Jersey owner gets a classic American double that is still fit for the field or, with slugs or buckshot and two barrels under the three-shell limit, the state's shotgun deer seasons.
