The Benelli M4 is a semiautomatic tactical shotgun in 12 gauge with an 18.5-inch barrel. This one has the pistol-grip stock, a matte finish, ghost-ring sights and a rail on the receiver for an optic, and it holds five in the tube plus one in the chamber. UPC 650350117073.

Everything about the setup is defensive: the short barrel for moving through a house, ghost rings for fast alignment, and a rail for a red dot. New Jersey buyers mostly treat the M4 as a home-protection and range shotgun. Its 12-gauge chambering is inside the state's 20-to-10-gauge window for deer with slugs or buckshot, but its 5+1 capacity exceeds the three-shell maximum for hunting, so the magazine would need to be limited before it was used in any deer season. For most owners that is beside the point, and it stays by the bed.
