This deluxe engraved derringer was made by Slotter and carries a 2 1/2-inch barrel. It is a step above the plain pattern: the barrel is engraved and wears a gold-inlaid barrel band, the lock is engraved, and the butt holds a trap for spare caps. The Slotter name can be read toward the rear of the lock. Barrel metal has a smooth brown patina with minor pinpoint pitting, the lock shows light pitting in the same area, and the wood is excellent with very sharp checkering.
As an antique pistol it is a collector's piece rather than a defensive gun, and it is the extra features that set it apart from the ordinary Slotter derringer: deluxe examples are hard to find, and the gold band harder still. A New Jersey collector of American antique arms will want to study the engraving and the cap trap closely; the condition facts above are exactly as the seller reports them.
Antique handguns in this catalog still ship to a New Jersey FFL dealer, where the transfer is finished before pickup.
