Colt made this 1851 Navy in 1857 and it carries serial number 73882. It is a .36 caliber revolver with a 7.5-inch barrel, and the left side of the frame bears the U.S. stamp of martial issue, with small inspector marks found across the piece. The metal has settled to an even dark gray patina, the barrel edges stay crisp, and the cylinder scene is largely intact, though the supplier notes it appears to have been chemically cleaned. The grips are very fine and match the gun, as does the rest of it; no cartouche is visible.
Collectors call these pieces Army Navies, because the examples issued to the Navy carry US Navy markings while this one carries the plain U.S. frame stamp. For a New Jersey collector of American martial arms it offers the points that count on an 1851: a stated production year, government marks in the right places, matching grips and an even patina. It is sold as used under SKU 65734.
