Kinko menuki showing figures with a water buffalo, water and foliage. The subject is a pastoral scene worked across the pieces, and the work is carried out in shakudo, gold and silver. They are unsigned and come in a box.

The three metals are what set this pair apart: shakudo, gold and silver are each used, and the contrast between them picks out the figures, the buffalo and the plants. Menuki sit under the handle wrap of a Japanese sword, and a New Jersey collector can either mount these on a koshirae or keep them boxed as a study pair. No maker's signature is present, so the appeal rests on the mixed-metal work and the scene itself. The box keeps the pair together and protected between viewings.
