This French-style Ottoman flintlock musket is an antique long gun in .65 caliber, dated by the seller to the early 1800s and carrying no serial number. The octagonal barrel runs 51 1/2 inches and flares slightly at the muzzle; it has gone to a smooth grey patina with brown areas scattered along its length. Eight brass bands hold barrel to stock, and a wide brass sheet wraps both sides of the stock for reinforcement. The lock plate shows a Crown over GR, with SHERWOOD stamped in a gentle arc at the rear.

The stock is reported in very good condition, with crisp checkering at the wrist and fine carving around the barrel tang and buttstock. The lock holds securely at both half and full cock. For a New Jersey collector this is a display and study piece: a long-barreled flintlock of regional pattern with marked lock, sold as an antique in used condition rather than as a field gun.
