Browning's X-Bolt in .338 Winchester Magnum, modern production, serial 03079ZZ354. The 26-inch stainless steel barrel is fitted with a muzzle brake, a Leupold VX-Freedom 3-9x40 scope is mounted, and the stock is textured black synthetic. The bore is excellent; the metal shows light marks throughout and the rifle grades very good overall.

A .338 Winchester Magnum is a big-game cartridge, and since New Jersey does not permit rifles for deer, this X-Bolt is a rifle you buy in-state for hunts elsewhere or for long-range practice where a range allows it. The brake takes the edge off the magnum's recoil and the stainless barrel shrugs off weather. Because the scope is already on it, your first job is a zero check rather than a mounting job.
